Friday Night Sessions: A Creative Hub for Original Art in North London

Nestled in the vibrant heart of North London, Friday Night Sessions (FNS) stands as a beacon for original artistry, offering a dynamic platform for musicians, filmmakers, poets, and visual artists to showcase their talents. Hosted at The Cove Studio in N15, just a short walk from Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale stations, FNS transforms Friday nights into a celebration of creativity and community.

A Melting Pot of Artistic Expression

At its core, FNS is dedicated to promoting original art in all its forms. The event welcomes a diverse array of performances, including live music across all genres, short-film screenings, stand-up comedy, spoken word, and visual arts. This inclusive approach fosters a rich tapestry of cultural and artistic backgrounds, creating a space where East meets West and South meets North in a melting pot of ideas and inspiration.

The Mystery Hour: Open Mic Opportunities

Kicking off each event is the "Mystery Hour," an open mic segment from 19:30 to 20:30. This hour invites emerging artists to take the stage and share their work, whether it's music, poetry, or short films. It's a unique opportunity for artists to test new material and engage with an appreciative audience.

Showcasing Featured Artists

Following the open mic, FNS presents a lineup of featured artists, each given a 30-minute slot to perform. Past events have highlighted talents such as:

  • Morgan King: A Grammy Award-winning songwriter and musician known for his work in electro, synth-pop, ambient, and alternative house music.

  • Kirsten Morrison: A singer, composer, and violinist whose music blends opera, gothic, and electronica influences.

  • Mark Lasis: A jazz accordionist whose performances fuse jazz, funk, and rock elements.

  • Paul Friedlander: A light artist renowned for his larger light installations. Working on a much smaller scale, the hand held light sculptures show a side of the work never seen in the large installations, and reveal Friedlander as a passionate performer.

  • Voodoo Rays: A four-piece band blending alternative, psychedelic, post-punk, pop, and rock genres.

Engaging with the Community

FNS is more than just a performance venue; it's a community hub where artists and audiences come together to socialize, collaborate, and inspire one another. The event encourages connections that can lead to new artistic endeavors and fosters an environment where creativity thrives.
